Fumihiko Maki

Fumihiko Maki is a legendary giant in architecture, known as Pritzker awarded and one of the architects who designed new World Trade Center buildings in Manhattan. He is still active in his 90s now.

I had a chance to visit Fukui Library he designed 20 years before.

The library is located in a nice suburban area and has a large green zone. It was nice experience to appreciate the beauty of the modern architecture walking around it.

The architecture itself is very modern with quite simple form made of industrial materials like concrete, glass and metal. However the outside coridor is designed as a wood deck faced to the shallow water basin, and this makes the architecture blend into its environment very naturally.
